Ally: Transforming Postpartum Mental Health Screening

The Mission Postpartum care is fundamentally broken. Mothers often face a “silent period” between their only scheduled clinical visit and the overwhelming reality of life at home. Ally was designed to bridge this gap, providing a proactive, AI-powered safety net for mothers navigating the “survival mode” of early parenthood.
My Role & Process As part of a high-velocity three-person design team at Johns Hopkins, I took an integrated approach to Product Strategy and UX. Rather than siloed tasks, our team operated as a true collaborative unit, with all members contributing to every phase of the project:
- Stakeholder Research: Conducted in-depth interviews with a diverse ecosystem of patients, clinicians, and family members to identify the emotional and operational gaps in traditional postpartum care.
- Insights & Analysis: Synthesized raw research into actionable design requirements, focusing on reducing the cognitive load for symptomatic mothers experiencing brain fog and fatigue.
- Ideation & Storyboarding: Led the brainstorming and visual storytelling process to architect a conversational NLP chatbot experience that validates the mother’s experience before escalating to clinical resources.
- Integrated Strategy: Collaborated on the end-to-end logic of personalized care plans, ensuring that diet, rest, and exercise interventions were sensitive to the “struggle” of postpartum life.
The Impact Ally transforms a passive screening process into a proactive partnership, ensuring that symptoms are caught early and mothers feel seen, supported, and guided through their most vulnerable moments.
